DIY Guides for voicemail greetings

Keep in mind that your trying to come across as a professional business or brand. Most of the time you can hire a trusted voiceover guy like Mark right here on this site. If you want to try to make your own business voicemail greeting, or even just one for your own personal phone, here are some tips.

The voicemail greeting should be multiple choice and include things like the name of your company, an automated response that is friendly and informative, and information on how to contact you by phone.

First you need to know how much time your phone system or provider allows for the duration of the greeting. Some are 30 sec some are longer. Secondly, you need to have a few ideas of what you want to say, or ask your callers.

Keep in mind that short greetings are often much better then trying to say way too much that could confuse your callers. Some pointers to ask, “please leave your name and number”, or maybe ask them to go your business website to contact you by email, or even as simple as text.

Some phone systems require the recording to be on a mp3 or wav file, and some you just have to record the greeting right into your phone. This last way is likely one you have tried already. Why you need custom voicemail greetings

Custom voicemail greetings are essential. If you don’t have one, it makes your business look unprofessional and a little robotic. Be sure to include something that people will want to hear when they’re calling your business. Inspirational voicemail greetings mean a lot ot your callers, it lets them know you care. When it comes to business, voicemail is the most important form of communication.

It’s the way that people contact you when you are busy with other clients or customers, and cannot get to the phone. It is often the customers or clients first impression of your business or brand, you need to leave a great impression. The worst thing is for a first time caller, or even a returning customer, to get a short blurb like “Leave a message i’ll call you back”. Or, just a beep after the ring.

Here is a great short example: Hello this is [first name] with {business name} I apologize I cannot answer the call at the moment, please leave me your name, number, and I will return the call as soon as  get back to the phone. Here you have let the caller know that they have reached your business, and that you are sorry you can’t answer right away. It assures them that you are interested in their call, and that you will get back with them as soon as you can.

When to use Funny voicemail greetings

Funny voicemail greetings are great, when appropriate. Decide the type of company you are, and the brand you have with your customers.

If your a bike shop or a skateboard store, you get the idea of the store type, a funny voicemail greeting may fit the style of the customer. If your a wedding dress store or a mortuary, obviously it is not a good idea to make your voicemail greetings funny.

An example of a funnycreative voicemail greeting is, “Hey! It’s (YOUR NAME HERE). So, haha funny story, my phone and I are playing hide and seek….aaannnddd…it’s winning. I’ll call you back as soon as I find it. . Hey before you leave that message do you want to know something about me, I love jokes. You know what I hate? I hate long messages, so why don’t you leave a short one and I’ll get back to you. If you leave a long one don’t count on it.”

Many more great voicemail greeting examples are here. FREE scripts and demos so you can hear them.
